![]() Everything just looks crisp, especially in HD. The digital actors hold up well today as a 2D fighting game and the excessive amounts of blood from a little punch to the chest still looks good. Awesome music and lots of great/humorous sound effects, "Toasty!". The sounds and graphics are still great, as they always were. However I still enjoy sitting on the couch with a couple of friends and having some great matches. I got my ass handed to me by a guy using Ermac, but I didn't mind at least he took the time to master him. Other than that the game is still fun to play online because occasionally you get those people who mix it up a bit. And if you're going to use him at least learn some of his combos, everyone just spams the teleport uppercut. Come on guys grow a pair, put some variety in there. ![]() Now I'm an average player and I never claimed to be the best, but what is up with some people? 90% of the people I played online used Smoke. Friendship, again?"Īfter that I played online. Besides few things are more fulfilling then pulling off a Fatality at the end of a match, or even a Friendship for that matter. I know a lot people say it doesn't compare to games like Street Fighter but I don't care, it's good enough for me. It's still fun as hell and still has great combos, I love the combat system MK3 has. The game has everything the original had. There's no bullshit spark or flash when I land a punch, it's blood, the way it should be. Starting up the first match and seeing that blood splatter across the screen as I land my first punch sure does bring back memories. I play it on novice because even now that I'm 20 years old I still don't have the balls to try it on hard. The first mode I played was the single player tournament. The only thing they changed was the main menu, which they did very well, great presentation. And now that it's available on the XBLA for only 5 bucks, everyone can relive the fun. With so many creative ways to rip apart your opponent the game was destined to become a classic. That's another thing I liked about this game, you can actually KILL people in this game unlike other fighting games. And who doesn't like a little gore and violence? Especially gore and violence with such style. I also liked that you could uppercut your enemies head off their body after you defeat them. I always liked how it had a darker tone then all the other fighting games at that time. In short, I definitely recommend this game to others. The Mortal Kombat games were some of my favorite games to play when I was a kid, ever. ![]() Aside from the main game there are a variety of codes that enable you to do some pretty cool things, not the least of which being the ability to play as the two final boss characters, though only in two-player games. Overall this is probably one of the best games in the series at least as far as on the SNES. In fact the effects are those self same ones from MK3, right down to the sound of blood hitting the ground. The impact sounds for punches and kicks, which I felt were somewhat lackluster in MK2, are much improved in MK3 and this game. Sound effect wise though it's another story. Even his cooler taunts for when you finally face him are absent here. Aside from a few missing tunes, many of Shao Kahn's voice clips are removed, so no longer does it announce the character you've chosen or who wins each round of a match. Story wise it's the same as the prior game except that Shao Kahn has made a discovery that has enabled him to take the fight directly to Earth.Ĭontrol wise it's more complex than the prior games because you have access to new finishing moves called Brutalities (why the Animalities from the original Mortal Kombat III were removed I don't know), which can be hard to pull off at first but provide enormous satisfaction to the sadist in you if you can manage to master them.Īudio wise it's much the same as in Mortal Kombat III, minus a few tunes (though those are found in the Sound Test). This game has a wide selection of characters to choose from and thus a wide variety of special moves to learn and master.
